A “Desert Rose”
Designed by award-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the museum’s architecture is on par with its stunning exhibits. The structure is composed of over 500 interlocking disks that resemble “desert roses,” which are unique salt basin formations found in the Qatari desert. It surrounds a beautifully restored palace, symbolising the country’s deep connection to nature and heritage through a stunning visual effect.
The 4 “Chapters”
In addition to the seasonal installations, the museum hosts 11 permanent exhibitions, grouped into 4 thematic sections or “chapters.” Representing beginnings, life in Qatar, the modern history of Qatar, and the future of Qatar, these interactive exhibits tell the nation’s story through historic artefacts, audiovisual storytelling, and more.

Some of the museum’s most fascinating finds include an 18th-century pearl diver’s chest, a beautiful vintage Quran, and a breathtakingly intricate carpet—the Baroda Carpet. One of the museum’s most prized possessions, the silk threads are embroidered with over a million pearls, which accompany various jewels, and even diamonds.
